Welcome

I am Tom Gormely, a Board-Certified Orthopedic Specialist, Doctor of Physical Therapy, and Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist; with an affinity for the applied science of human performance optimization. TomGormely.com is the home of Gormely Performance. The goal of this site is to be a source of actionable and science-driven human performance information. Topics will span across the entire development continuum: from acute injury through high performance and skill development. There will be a considerable focus on throwing and rotational athletes. I will touch on multiple topics across the performance/skill spectrum that constitute a comprehensive high performance unit (HPU). My goal is to discuss the science behind, and framework for, a vertically layered system of: rehab, pre-hab, mobility, stability, strength, power, speed, motor learning, skill acquisition, and skill development. Understanding and implementing strategies from each of these areas forges comprehensive athlete development systems.

A comprehensive approach is vital to the complete development of all athletes. My focus is always to find the best scientific evidence for building powerful, robust, and resilient bodies; that can not only produce high levels of force over short time periods, but also accept considerable loads without breaking down. These physical capabilities are vital to the success of athletes. I hope this site serves as a think-tank and a source of idea generation that fosters discussion and collaboration. There is no one size fits all approach to enhancing performance. Dogmatic practices in the fields of rehabilitation, sports performance, and skill acquisition serve to only limit optimal development. Understanding physiological mechanisms, complete development systems, and specific adaptive responses are the building blocks to a detailed training design. TomGormely.com and Gormely Performance will serve to share my thoughts on how I treat and train, as I continue to seek the optimization of high human performance.
